This Month's Cover: Augie Meyers

Augie has been actively working the European music circuit since 1965. In the early 60’s he called himself the ONLY LONGHAIR in California. This landed him roles playing extras on movie sets like Mod Squad, Honeysuckle Rose, along with other roles as plumbers, bikers, hippies, and hoodlums. These roles keep the big bucks coming in at $45 a day. Not bad for that day in time.

He’s collaborated with the likes of Bob Dylan, John Hammond, Tom Waites, Freddie Fender, Doug Sahm, Cory Chiesel, Frank Gomez and numerous other great counter parts.

Augie Meyers' style and his Vox Continental has become one of music's most distinctive keyboard sounds around. Augie can be heard with the Sir Douglas Quintet,Texas Tornados, Meyers’ solo efforts as well as on landmark albums by Bob Dylan (”Time Out of Mind” and “Love and Theft”) and John Hammond (“Wicked Grin”). Echoes of the Meyers' style and sound can be heard in the music of the Doors, the Kinks, the Animals as well as the Beatles just to name a few. ... more in the story
